WHAT DOES CWL STAND FOR?

CWL stands for Concealed Weapon License. This is the term used in Florida by the Department of Agriculture. In other states it is also know as CCL – Concealed Carry License.

DO I NEED A CWL

No, in Florida you no longer need a CWL. As a matter of fact, since September 25, 2025, it is even legal to carry openly. But there are downsides to not having a CWL that can get you into pretty serious trouble if you do not know about them.

WHAT DO I NEED TO APPLY FOR A CWL?

In order to apply for a CWL you need a Certificate of Completion of a Firearms Safety Course, a passport photo, a completed fingerprint card, and a completed application.
